California Voters Guide

TO ALL CALIFORNIA NATUROPATHIC DOCTORS

The California Naturopathic Doctors Association has put together a Voters Guide for the 2018 Midterm Elections. Rather than offer endorsements of candidates, our guide serves as a resource for you to make an informed decision about the voting record of the state legislators that you will be choosing this November. In order to get CNDA-sponsored legislation passed, such as a scope-expansion bill, we need legislators in Sacramento who are supportive of our profession. By looking at the voting record below, you can see if the candidates voted in support of the previous CNDA-sponsored bill as well as the ND licensure extension bill, the universal healthcare bill, and scope expansion bills of other allied health professionals such as nurses, optometrists, etc.

HOW TO USE THIS VOTERS GUIDE:

1. Search the chart below to find the candidates who are running in your senate district and assembly district.

2. Look at their voting record. Note that if they did not get the chance to vote on a bill it will say “Not Present.”

3. For all the candidates who weren't present for these bills, you can look candidates up here on Health Access

Health Access, a consumer advocacy coalition, produced this scorecard. You can see how candidates have voted on other health bills to help make a decision.

4. Make an informed decision when you vote on November 4th!

GET INVOLVED!

All of you can help us impact ND-related legislation in California by meeting with your state assembly and senate representatives once a year. Please contact the CNDA at coordinator@calnd.org to get more information on how to organize a quick local meeting. We'll give you materials to hand out and talking points for the meeting so all you need to do is reach out and set up a time to meet with them in their local office.

Other great ways to get involved!

1. If you’re not already, become an active member of the CNDA! We are an organization of volunteer doctors focused on the advancement of the field of naturopathic medicine and we strive to make integrative healthcare accessible to all Californians. More information about membership and the benefits we offer can be found on the CNDA site.

2. Once you're a member, join a committee! The CNDA has several active committees that each meet once a month for about an hour. Contact us (coordinator@calnd.org) for more information about our committees and how to join.

3. Make a donation! The growth of naturopathic medicine in California depends on your donations to help educate Californians and our legislators about this great profession. We are on a mission to develop a strong scope of practice in California and become well known and respected doctors in our communities across California and beyond.

4. Sign up for our advocacy alerts!  The CNDA uses the advocacy platform, VoterVoice, to communicate quickly with our supporters when we need calls or letters of support into state reps. By signing up, you will be notified the next time we run a piece of legislation.

Docsuse this VoterVoice sign-up sheet in your office so that you can get your patients involved in our efforts too!

5. Connect with your colleagues! The CNDA has a Find a Doctor search engine on the home page of our website. Simply put your zip code in to find the doctors near you! Reaching out and establishing connections with your fellow NDs strengthens the profession and your local community.
