PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
Determining the “best” diet for a patient requires more than selecting a popular dietary pattern. This webinar introduces a five-layer framework for developing individualized nutrition recommendations based on genetics, metabolic health, personal preferences, food access, and broader environmental or ethical concerns.
Participants will learn which genetic factors and metabolic markers may help guide dietary decisions, as well as how to incorporate a patient’s health history, age, symptoms, culture, lifestyle, food preferences, budget, and practical access to nutritious foods. The presentation will also explore how values related to sustainability, environmental impact, and food systems may influence long-term dietary choices.
By working through each layer in detail, naturopathic doctors will gain a structured and clinically practical approach to creating nutrition plans that are physiologically appropriate, realistic, and sustainable throughout different stages of a patient’s life and health journey.
-
1. Identify key genetic factors that may influence an individual’s optimal dietary approach.
2. Evaluate metabolic markers that can guide personalized nutrition recommendations.
3. Integrate personal preferences, health history, lifestyle, and cultural considerations into dietary planning.
4. Assess practical factors, including food availability, accessibility, affordability, and preparation capacity.
5. Consider broader priorities, such as sustainability, environmental impact, ethical values, and long-term feasibility.
