PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION
Mold is a normal and essential part of our environment, helping break down organic material and recycle nutrients in nature. The problem arises when mold grows indoorsโparticularly in tightly sealed, energy-efficient homesโwhere patients may experience ongoing exposure to mold spores, microbial fragments, and mycotoxins.
For susceptible individuals, chronic exposure can contribute to a significant inflammatory and toxic burden, affecting immune function, detoxification pathways, neurological health, respiratory function, hormones, and other systems throughout the body. Because symptoms can be widespread and overlap with many other chronic conditions, identifying mold-related illness can be challenging.
This presentation will provide a practical, naturopathic approach to recognizing patterns of mold-related illness, choosing appropriate diagnostic testing, and developing individualized treatment plans that support detoxification, immune regulation, and recovery. Because treatment is unlikely to succeed without addressing continued exposure, we will also discuss reliable approaches to evaluating homes, workplaces, and vehicles so clinicians can better guide patients in identifying and reducing their environmental mold burden.

Dr. Pedro has been in private practice for over 15 years. While living in Maine from 2014 โ 2019 she developed mold illness and began to see how many of her chronically ill patients were mold sensitive, and living in moldy environments. Since then, she has taken Jill Cristaโs professional mold courses and participated in the Jill Crista - Neil Nathan mentorship group dedicated to mold illness and related chronic conditions. Mold illness and related conditions such as MCAS, gut dysfunction, and PAN/PANDAS are the focus of her current practice.
